Microsoft Releases September Security Windows Updates

16 Sep 2025

In a significant move to bolster security across its suite of software, Microsoft has released their September 2025 Windows Updates. This month’s update cycle includes 86 security updates, out of which nine are classified as critical. Alongside the updates, the company addressed five non-Microsoft related issues, including vulnerabilities in Chromium.

Key Fixes and Improvements

With these updates, Microsoft has targeted several persistent issues users have faced. For both Windows 10 version 22H2 and Windows 11 versions 22H2 / 23H2, the update resolves problems that caused non-admin users to encounter unnecessary User Account Control (UAC) prompts during certain actions in MSI installations. This was a recurring annoyance affecting programs including Office Professional Plus 2010 and Autodesk applications.

Moreover, Windows 11 version 24H2 users will see the resolution of a baffling input issue that led some applications to become unresponsive. The update also patches a bug related to Internet Information Services (IIS) where certain modules were mysteriously disappearing from the IIS Manager interface. In addition to this, a fix for an issue concerning Network Device Interface (NDI) audio was implemented, which had previously hampered certain applications' performance.

However, one known issue remains: users who install KB5063878 may experience audio stutter when they enable DisplayCapture in OBS Studio. Users are advised to be mindful of this when applying the updates.

Advisories and Installation Guidelines

Beyond the security patches, Microsoft has issued new security advisories. Of note is the guidance on secure Entra ID application authorization validation, designed to help users better protect their applications from unauthorized access.

To ensure these critical updates are applied, users should follow these steps:

  1. Open the Start menu, type “Windows Update,” and select the appropriate result.
  2. Click on “Check for updates” to initiate a manual check.
  3. If the updates are not downloaded automatically, select “Download & install all”.
Direct downloads are also available through catalog entries for each respective Windows version.

End-of-Life Reminder

As Windows 10 approaches its end of life on October 14, 2025, users of this version are encouraged to transition to more updated platforms to maintain security and performance standards. This deadline underscores the importance of staying informed about the latest updates and utilizing them to safeguard digital environments.
