Microsoft has rolled out a new feature for Windows 11 users that includes a built-in internet speed test directly accessible from the system tray. Users will find a new option in the network icon context menu as well as the Wi‑Fi quick settings page. These changes, while convenient, involve being routed to Bing for the actual speed test, suggesting that the test may depend on third-party services rather than being a fully integrated native feature.
Streamlined Access Points
The process is designed to be straightforward. Clicking on the network speed test button from either the system tray or the Wi‑Fi settings page will instantly direct users to a Bing page where the test will be conducted. This approach could simplify checking your internet speed without needing to download separate applications, balancing ease of use with the power of Bing's capabilities.
Additionally, Microsoft is overhauling the Mobile Devices page located in the Bluetooth settings section. In the updated interface, linked phones will now be displayed more prominently and can be managed directly from this page. Furthermore, any related settings are now conveniently linked, providing greater control and accessibility for managing mobile devices connected to a user's PC.
Both these new offerings are currently included in the most recent Windows 11 Insider Dev and Beta builds, specifically versions 26220.6682 and 26120.6682, known as KB5065782. It's important to note that these innovations are still under testing phases and subject to adjustments before they become widely available.
The changes reflect Microsoft’s continuous efforts to enhance user experience by integrating more functionality directly into Windows 11. While these updates are currently available only to Insider program participants, they offer a preview of the potential enhancements users might expect in future stable releases of Windows 11.
