Windows 11 Update Enhances Start Menu and Command Line Features

09 Oct 2025

In a significant update for Windows 11 enthusiasts, Microsoft has rolled out a new Windows Insider preview through the Canary channel with build 27965. This upgrade introduces notable enhancements to the Start menu, which now features a scrollable 'All' apps region directly on the first page. Previously, users had to navigate to a second level to access all applications. Such refinements improve accessibility and streamline user interactions.

Reimagining Classic Tools

Additionally, the integration of the Edit command-line editor marks a return to familiar utility for many users. For those using 64-bit Windows systems, the edit command restores ease when opening files directly from the Windows Terminal. This development caters especially to administrators seeking efficient ways to execute tasks, simplifying actions by allowing the execution of the Edit command with just edit <filename>.

Another significant change in build 27965 is the removal of .NET Framework 3.5 as an optional feature. By pushing this change, Microsoft encourages a transition to more modern frameworks. Nonetheless, business customers needing the legacy framework can still access it through a standalone installer, ensuring continued support for legacy applications without hindering the adoption of newer technologies.

Taskbar Bug Fixes

This Windows Insider preview version also involves fixes that address certain Taskbar issues. In prior builds, users experienced Taskbar hiding problems, alongside display issues affecting videos and games. This update aims to resolve these disruptions, fostering better user experiences across various multimedia applications.

Moreover, enhancements cater to users operating across multiple devices, as new adjustments allow for improved display size configurations. The improved Phone Link support for both Android and iOS expands the functionality further, offering seamless synchronization and connectivity with Windows 11. By addressing these various user requirements, this Canary build of Windows 11 continues to demonstrate Microsoft's commitment to evolving its operating system in line with user feedback and technological advancements.
