Windows11 Home and Pro to Auto-Upgrade by 2025-11-11

13 Nov 2025

Microsoft announced that Windows11 version 23H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of support on 2025-11-11. Users will be automatically upgraded to Windows11 version 25H2 to maintain security updates.

Upgrade Details and Timing

The Home and Pro editions of Windows11 23H2 will cease receiving security updates by November 2025. Enterprise and Education versions, however, will continue to receive updates until November 2026.

  • Home and Pro editions to cease updates: 2025-11-11.
  • Enterprise and Education versions supported until 2026-11.

For unmanaged devices, the upgrade to version 25H2 will be automatic, though users can choose when to restart the update process. Home users have limited postponement options.

Compatibility and Upgrade Path

Microsoft has noted that some older processors, lacking certain hardware instructions like POPCNT, are incompatible with versions 24H2 and 25H2. Affected users may consider downgrading to Windows 10 or switching to another operating system such as Linux.

  • Automatic upgrade to 25H2 for Home and Pro users.
  • 24H2 and 25H2 require specific processor instructions.

Microsoft advises the switch to 25H2 to continue receiving security patches and features. This upgrade provides crucial security updates essential for maintaining system protection in the future.
