Microsoft has confirmed a Windows 11 security update has disrupted VPN access for a section of enterprise users. The affected groups primarily include those using the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) in mirrored networking mode.
Specific Updates Cause Issues
The problem arose following the release of the October 2025 update KB5067036, and continued with the December 2025 Patch Tuesday update KB5072033. While Home and Pro users remain largely unaffected, those connecting to corporate networks through third-party VPNs are facing access issues, leading to failures in VPN-dependent services.
Investigation Underway
Microsoft has acknowledged these VPN disruptions but has not yet provided a resolution or workaround. The company stated that it is actively investigating the issue. Meanwhile, enterprise users relying on VPN access for crucial corporate resources may experience significant operational difficulties.
