Microsoft has announced plans for two significant updates to Windows 11, slated for release in 2026. The updates, labeled Version 26H1 and 26H2, will bring a variety of new features to both new and existing users.
Version 26H1 and 26H2 Updates
Windows 11 Version 26H1 will be exclusive to new PCs powered by the Snapdragon X2 system-on-chip and is expected to be available early in the year. Version 26H2, however, will be accessible to all users by autumn. These updates aim to integrate the AI assistant Copilot more deeply into the operating system, enhancing the natural-language search capabilities on the Taskbar and within File Explorer.
New Features and Enhancements
Among the improvements, a restored calendar flyout on the Taskbar will provide handy access to events and reminders synced with Outlook. Additionally, the introduction of a fullscreen Xbox app will transform a PC into an Xbox-like gaming experience. Users can effortlessly switch back to the standard desktop via the Xbox controller.
Other enhancements include support for video-based wallpapers, which can continuously loop on the desktop, offering a dynamic visual environment for users.
Integration and User Experience
Expanding Copilot's role, Microsoft aims to streamline how users interact with applications, documents, and web content. Copilot will answer questions and generate summaries directly in File Explorer, eliminating the need to open documents. These updates demonstrate Microsoft's ongoing commitment to enhancing user engagement and functionality within Windows 11.
