10 Aug 2024

Microsoft has unveiled a new build of Windows 11, designated as 26120.1350, now available to members of the Windows Insider Program in the Dev Channel. This update, identified under KB5041871, introduces an exciting feature that facilitates content sharing with Android devices through the Windows share window. Alongside this enhancement, the build also addresses several bugs while acknowledging some persistent issues.

Changes and Improvements

The latest updates are being gradually rolled out to the Dev Channel, with specific toggles activated for users.

  • General: In a significant move, Microsoft is implementing a change that utilizes Microsoft SmartScreen to verify the source of MSIX packages, whether they are installed locally or via the web (ms-appinstaller://?source=). This enhancement aims to ensure that installations are safe and secure.
  • Windows Share: Users can now effortlessly share content with Android devices directly from the Windows share window. To utilize this feature, pairing your Android device with your Windows PC is necessary, achieved through the Link to Windows app on Android and Phone Link on your PC. The updated UI for sharing content to an Android device via the Windows share window shows an updated icon in the Nearby Share section.

Fixes in the Dev Channel

Alongside new features, several fixes are being rolled out to enhance user experience:

  • Task Manager: Resolved an issue that caused the Performance page graphs in Task Manager to display incorrect colors when using dark mode.
  • Windows Sandbox: Addressed the problem that prevented Windows Sandbox from launching, which resulted in error 0x80370106.
  • Voice Access: Fixed an issue where Voice Access commands were not functioning correctly for non-English supported languages.

Known Issues

As with any update, some known issues remain:

  • General: [IMPORTANT] Windows Insiders who join the Dev Channel on PCs running Windows 11, version 24H2 Build 26100.xxxx will notice “(repair version)” next to the latest Dev Channel build in Windows Update. This is a routine indication that an in-place upgrade will occur to bring the PC up to the latest build. There may be failures when adding additional languages or optional features, resulting in error 0x800f081f.
  • Task Manager: Users may experience crashes when navigating between different pages in Task Manager.
  • Input: The team is actively working on a fix for an issue that causes text suggestions for the hardware keyboard to malfunction, particularly when selecting one suggestion unexpectedly concatenates text.
