Harlowe Brings Innovative Gameplay to Borderlands 4

Gearbox Software has unveiled Harlowe, an intriguing addition to the Borderlands 4 lineup, highlighting her as a former Maliwan combat scientist. As a character, Harlowe embodies a toolkit focused on gadget-based crowd-control, bringing a fresh dynamic to the series. Her skills enable players to manage enemies with finesse, connecting foes to share damage, locking opponents in stasis, and orchestrating spectacular explosions.

Innovative Skills and Interactions

Harlowe’s creativity in the battlefield is anchored by her core trait, Entanglement. This skill allows her to bind enemies together, ensuring any inflicted damage is distributed amongst them. Her Cosmic Brilliance skill tree introduces the Flux Generator, capable of encasing enemies in a cryo-damage field while fortifying nearby allies with an overshield. This ability not only strips elemental resistances but can also be repositioned and launched at will.

The Creative Bursts skill tree expands on her capability with the Chroma Accelerator, a remote-triggered explosive device, characterized by lead designer Tommy Westerman as a 'boss killer.' Advanced upgrades like the Q-Ball augment its effects, enabling it to bounce across the battlefield, detonating on impact. Special Purpose Magnets further enhance its destructive power by drawing enemies towards its explosion point.

Seize the Day - A Nod to Classic Heroes

Harlowe's Seize the Day branch includes the Zero-Point skill, reminiscent of Maya’s Phaselock in Borderlands 2. This ability lifts targets into a stasis field, allowing for subsequent tactical plays like slamming them into other adversaries or exploiting environmental hazards. Integration with the Inertia upgrade extends the capabilities by transferring the stasis bubble to another foe upon the initial target’s demise, albeit with declining potency.
