Meta is ending support for its Messenger desktop apps for both Windows and macOS, directing users to web versions by December 2025. Users have been notified of the change through in-app prompts.
End of Desktop App Support
On Windows, the Messenger desktop app will cease functionality on 2025-12-14. macOS users have a 60-day period to transition, after which access will be blocked.

Switching to Web Versions
Messenger will continue operating through web browsers. Windows users can access Messenger via the Facebook app or browser, while macOS users will use browser access exclusively.

Preparing for the Change
Users are advised to save chat histories and switch to browser-based Messenger. Enable secure storage by navigating to Settings > Privacy and safety > End-to-end encrypted chats > Message storage, then activate secure storage.
