Microsoft Tests Expanded View for Android Apps on Phone Link

11 Dec 2025

Microsoft is testing a new expanded view feature for Android apps on Windows 11 through Phone Link, aiming to enhance the app streaming experience by allowing larger app windows on the desktop.

Enhanced Viewing Experience

The new feature introduces an "expanded view" button for Android apps streamed via Phone Link. This option, visible in the top-right corner of the app window, allows users to increase the window size beyond the typical narrow portrait format, although it may not yet support full-screen expansion.

Current testing shows mixed results, with some apps, such as Uber, only slightly increasing in size and displaying black bars on the sides, occasionally accompanied by blurry text. These issues are under review in the current testing phase.

Compatibility and Rollout Concerns

App streaming on Phone Link is compatible with selected Android smartphones, including recent models from Samsung, Asus ROG, Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, and Xiaomi. In contrast, basic phone mirroring is available on a broader range of devices. Microsoft's development of Phone Link is part of the Windows 11 Dev preview using Phone Link version 1.25112.33.0.

Microsoft plans to address existing challenges before the public release of the expanded view feature, ensuring a smooth user experience.
