Windows 11 Expands with New Copilot AI Features

17 Oct 2025

Microsoft is enhancing Windows 11 by introducing new AI capabilities that extend Copilot beyond its existing confines. These updates include voice activation via the “Hey Copilot” feature, as well as Copilot Voice and Vision designed to analyze on-screen content and files. A new taskbar feature called Ask Copilot and Copilot Actions for file interaction are also part of the upgrade.

New Features and Integrations

This enhancement introduces text-based chat options for Windows Insider members, supporting quiet use scenarios. Users will soon be able to transfer text between Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and receive guidance in Windows Settings. The Copilot can also access and read files beyond what is initially visible on screen.

  • Copilot Actions will appear in Copilot Labs for Windows Insiders, focusing on sorting and extracting information from local files.
  • Microsoft showcased a private preview of the Manus app, allowing for website creation from local documents.
  • Filmora video editing and Zoom Click-to-Do scheduling integrations are added for Copilot+ PCs.

Security and Privacy Measures

Microsoft has emphasized its commitment to security and privacy in these new updates. Copilot Actions will default to being switched off, giving users control to pause or disable agents and requiring approval for sensitive activities. Agents are isolated during runtime, with granular permissions and dedicated agent accounts having limited initial permissions. Furthermore, access is restricted to specific folders such as Documents, Downloads, Desktop, and Pictures unless users authorize broader access.

Microsoft has warned of cross-prompt injection risks and mandates trusted signing for integrated agents. These updates aim to blend AI into everyday interactions on Windows 11 and transform experimental AI tools into practical productivity aids.
