Backing up data is something many still don’t do. It’s the only way to safeguard against data loss, be it from unforeseen natural disasters, drive failures, or malicious third parties. The 3-2-1 backup rule is straightforward to adhere to. You want three copies of your data, stored on two different types of storage and one located off-site. Cloud storage is a good way to take your data outside, but you will be relying on a company to keep your data safe, something we’ve become too reliant on in recent years.

Microsoft's New Checkpoint Updates for Windows 11

Microsoft is introducing a new kind of update starting with Windows 11 version 24H2 called a checkpoint update. On the surface, these look like regular updates, but Microsoft is making it so that future updates are smaller by reducing the number of older changes included in each release. After re-reading the announcement multiple times, I realized it’s actually a good thing, but my first reaction seeing this while I was on vacation was definitely “weren’t Windows updates already differential?” There have been more and more ways in which Microsoft delivers updates for Windows, and it’s not easy to understand what each type of update means for users.

CloudFlare's Alarming Internet Traffic Statistics

Would you believe that a third of all internet traffic is just automated, bot traffic? That’s what CloudFlare says in its 2024 application security report anyway, and an even scarier statistic is that apparently close to 7% of all internet traffic is malicious. That’s a lot of traffic and really makes you wonder about the state of the internet today. Given the state of many social media platforms, I’d certainly believe it.

The Role of AI in Everyday Life

It seems like AI is being talked about every day, all day. It’s in headlines for concerns of security, offense of artistic theft, and questions of morality. My question is about its usefulness. Of course it’s useful in an industrial sense, for car production and things of that nature. I’m talking about AI software which, despite having been in college during its rise to the mainstream, wasn’t much help. A lot of the chat models still have too many errors or can’t give straight answers about complicated topics without sounding strange. The automation seems to always have some sort of bug or error that takes way too long to fix or narrow down. Implemented art programs like Adobe Firefly still can’t be as specific as you’d like or will make comical errors regarding accuracy. I still haven’t found much of a use for it. Have you found use for it? Do you use it at all in day-to-day life/work?

The Impact of VR on Workforce Productivity

Virtual reality has become a mainstay in tech. It hasn’t taken off in a super big way yet, the sales numbers show that. Having said that, the sales numbers for VR headsets have gone up every year since 2021, with the global number now being 34.03 million. This is a slow but positive growth. It’s become quite popular in the gaming space, with games like the upcoming Batman: Arkham Shadow being a VR exclusive. Seventy percent of people who have a VR headset have purchased at least one game for it. It’s often brought up for at least a few moments in gaming conventions, giving the notion that gaming companies also believe it’s going to be around for a while.

Dyson's Customizable OnTrac Headphones

The same brand that innovated in the vacuuming space is now attempting to make (audio) waves in the sound biz. I adore my Dyson cleaner and looking at the new OnTrac headphones, I can’t help but want one. Costing $499.99, the OnTrac headphones promise high-quality sound and customizable features that could make them a game-changer in the audio market.
