In a decisive effort to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Karnah has mandated a comprehensive withdrawal of government employees from various social media platforms. This directive, issued on September 14, is a direct response to reports indicating that some public servants were engaging in discussions and sharing opinions on political matters, a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Enforcement of Political Neutrality

The official communication, referenced as no ROK/AE/2024/1131-37, emphasizes the necessity for political neutrality among public servants during election periods. The circular explicitly instructs all employees within the Subdivision to exit from social media platforms, including WhatsApp groups, Facebook, and Twitter, particularly those where political discussions are prevalent.

“All employees of this Subdivision are instructed to exit from all social media platforms, including WhatsApp groups, Facebook, and Twitter, where discussions on political activities are taking place,” the circular states. It further warns that any breach of this directive will lead to stringent disciplinary measures.

In addition to the withdrawal of government employees, the SDM has also called upon the administrators of local social media groups to promptly review their memberships. This review is intended to ensure that no government employees, apart from those involved in official departmental groups, are participating in these forums.

Group administrators have been cautioned that failure to comply with this directive will also result in severe repercussions. The SDM’s office has made it clear that the use of social media for political commentary or engagement by government employees during the MCC period is strictly prohibited, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining a fair and impartial electoral environment.
