Windows 11 Beta Testing “Continue from Phone” Feature
Windows 11 Beta channel has been exploring new features to enhance user experience, with the latest addition being the “Continue from phone” feature in the Start menu. This feature allows users to seamlessly transition their work from a mobile device to their PC using Phone Link.
Windows Latest recently tested this feature in the “All apps” section of the Start menu. However, upon clicking on it, no action was observed. It is worth noting that the mobile phone was already connected to the PC via Phone Link.
Further investigation into the Managed Devices section did not reveal any new settings related to the feature. Microsoft researcher PhantomOcean3 also acknowledged the feature but reported that it is not functional for anyone at the moment.
According to Microsoft’s update references, the “Continue from Phone” feature runs in the background without launching any dialog boxes upon activation. The feature is described as an executable that allows users to resume their work on a file stored in OneDrive from another device within a few minutes of their PC being locked.
This feature aims to provide users with the convenience of continuing their work seamlessly across different devices. For instance, users can edit a document on their phone and then resume editing it on their PC without any disruptions.
The integration of Android devices with Windows through Phone Link has been steadily improving in recent months. Users can now utilize their phones as webcams, edit screenshots on their PCs, and even extract text from images.
Additionally, Phone Link’s integration with Copilot has been enhanced, allowing users to check text messages and phone numbers accurately. By enabling Phone Link in the Copilot app, users can access features like viewing the last text message on their phone and receiving relevant suggestions based on the message content.
Overall, the advancements in Phone Link integration demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to providing a seamless and interconnected user experience across different devices.
