In the rumoured images, we see Jack Black posing as Steve with a pixellated pickaxe, and he’s wearing Steve’s recognisable outfit – but aside from that, it’s just Jack Black. He even has his trademark bushy beard, which as we know, doesn’t gel with Steve as we know him. In the spiel that accompanies the images, we get the lowdown on Steve’s role in the movie:

Steve's New Adventure

Steve, played by Jack Black, has been resident in the Overworld for long enough that he crafted a blocky life for himself and made a best friend – his pet wolf, Dennis. But then the evil Malgosha captured him, now his freedom lies in the hands of four fresh visitors to his world…

We also see shots of a pink sheep, a bumblebee, and of course, the instantly recognisable Creeper, which has a different colour palette compared to the game and appears to be made from grass. There are some tips on the images of how these characters should be marketed and presented on promotional materials, but that’s about it.

Is this what you were expecting, or did you have visions of something a little less bizarre?

Minecraft is set to be released on April 4, 2025 – it was supposed to be released several years ago in 2019 but has been subjected to several delays.
