AMD has announced that the forthcoming Windows 11 version 24H2 update will enhance the performance of its latest Zen 5 CPUs. Launched earlier this month, the Ryzen 9000 series has faced scrutiny, as many reviews indicated it did not meet AMD’s initial performance expectations. Following speculation regarding a potential Windows bug, AMD disclosed that it will optimize AMD-specific branch prediction code in the upcoming update, which is anticipated to be released next month.
Performance Boost Across Generations
While Zen 5 is expected to receive the most significant performance uplift, AMD acknowledges that the update will also benefit its Zen 4 and Zen 3 processors. Although the company has not specified the exact performance gains for its older CPUs, it anticipates a 13 percent improvement for the 9950X CPU in Far Cry 6 when running on version 24H2, alongside a seven percent increase for Cyberpunk 2077. These enhancements represent notable advancements for a single Windows update.
AMD is actively collaborating with Microsoft to ensure this optional update reaches all Windows 11 users promptly. Initial reviews had suggested that the previous generation Ryzen 9 7950X might offer better value compared to the new flagship Ryzen 9 9950X. For instance, Hardware Unboxed found that the 9950X was only one percent faster than the 7950X over a 13-game average at 1080p with an RTX 4090, with a mere three percent advantage in productivity tasks.
As anticipation builds, the tech community awaits further evaluations of the 24H2 update with the latest Ryzen chips to verify AMD’s claims regarding performance improvements, particularly for the Zen 4 and Zen 3 processors. Despite the initial gaming benchmark results for the 9950X being less than stellar, AMD remains confident that the Ryzen 9000 series will deliver top-tier performance across content creation, productivity, and AI applications.
