Macromedia FreeHand FAQ

Macromedia FreeHand MX is a vector graphics editor and drawing tool that was originally developed by Altsys and later acquired by Macromedia, which was subsequently acquired by Adobe Systems. FreeHand MX was known for its strong capabilities in creating illustrations, layouts, and multi-page documents. It was widely used by graphic designers, illustrators, and desktop publishers for its robust set of features, which allowed for detailed vector artwork and complex page designs.

After Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005, FreeHand continued to be sold but was not actively developed. Adobe's decision to focus on its own vector graphics editor, Adobe Illustrator, led to the discontinuation of FreeHand. Over time, support was phased out, and FreeHand's user base largely transitioned to Illustrator or other vector graphics programs. Although some devoted users still utilize FreeHand, it is no longer officially supported or updated by Adobe.
