In a nostalgic nod to simpler times, many users fondly recall the days spent experimenting with MS Paint on their vintage CRT monitors. This beloved software, which allowed for unrestrained creativity, was eventually succeeded by Paint 3D in 2016. While Paint 3D aimed to modernize the experience by enabling users to create and edit 3D models, it seems that the journey is coming to an end. Microsoft has announced that it will discontinue Paint 3D and remove it from the Microsoft Store.
The decision to phase out Paint 3D isn’t entirely unexpected. In 2021, Microsoft had already removed it from the list of pre-installed applications on Windows, signaling a shift in focus. Recently, users of Paint 3D have noticed a banner within the app, indicating that the software will be deprecated starting November 4.
Can It Still Be Downloaded?
Despite its impending removal, Paint 3D remains available for free download from the Microsoft Store for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. However, the app has struggled to capture the same level of affection as its predecessor, the classic Paint, which continues to enjoy a robust user base worldwide.
In light of this transition, Microsoft has shifted its focus back to the classic Paint application, rolling out a series of updates and incorporating new AI-driven features. These enhancements allow users to create images from scratch and seamlessly remove backgrounds, breathing new life into a timeless tool.
