Microsoft has resolved a security issue causing certain Windows PCs to enter BitLocker recovery mode after the July 2024 update. Affected versions include Windows 11, Windows 10, and several Windows Server editions. Users are advised to install the latest update and retrieve recovery keys via the BitLocker portal.
The latest July Windows security update may cause PCs using BitLocker encryption to enter a recovery screen. Microsoft has alerted users to this issue and recommends entering the recovery key to boot up normally.
Microsoft has identified an issue with the July 9, 2024 security updates KB5040442 and KB5040427 for Windows. Affected devices may boot into a BitLocker recovery screen. Users are advised to have their recovery key ready. Microsoft is investigating the problem.
