Google is set to enhance the user experience on Windows laptops with the introduction of its new Essentials app, which will be preinstalled on a variety of HP models. This innovative application consolidates several Google services, including Messages and Photos, while also providing easy access to a range of other applications.
Features of the Essentials App
According to Google, the Essentials app is designed to help users “discover and install many of our best Google services.” Within the app, users can seamlessly browse their Google Photos and send or receive messages via Google Messages. Although a comprehensive list of included applications has yet to be released, promotional materials highlight icons for popular services such as:
- Google Sheets
- Google Drive
- Nearby Share
- Google One (which offers a two-month free trial for new subscribers)
HP plans to incorporate the Essentials app across its various laptop lines, including Envy, Pavilion, and Omen. Users will have the flexibility to customize their experience, as Google emphasizes that they can uninstall any component of the Essentials app or remove it entirely if they choose.
Gaming and Future Availability
In addition to productivity tools, the Essentials app features Google’s Play Games, allowing users to download popular Android games like Clash of Clans directly onto their computers. Players can enjoy these games through the Essentials app or the HP Omen Gaming Hub, with the added benefit of syncing progress between devices for compatible titles.
Looking ahead, Google has indicated plans to expand the availability of the Essentials app to additional Windows PCs, though specific details remain forthcoming. The Verge has reached out to both HP and Google for further information regarding this rollout.
