Windows 11 Spotlight Feature Gets a Facelift

Windows 11’s Spotlight feature has garnered attention for its ability to enliven desktop backgrounds with a rotating selection of wallpapers and intriguing facts. However, users have expressed concerns about the feature’s current design, which occupies a significant portion of the desktop when users seek to explore more about the displayed wallpaper.

The existing Spotlight pop-up, as illustrated in the accompanying screenshot, covers approximately 20% of the desktop space and directs users to Bing search results, including the “Ask Copilot” feature.

New Spotlight Designs

In response to user feedback, Microsoft is refining the Spotlight experience in Windows 11 Build 22635.4145, currently available in the beta channel. The company is introducing enhancements that include the implementation of hotspots activated by right-clicking on the Windows Spotlight icon.

In upcoming releases, users can anticipate a more streamlined Spotlight pop-up with a reduced flyout design. Microsoft clarified in a recent blog post, “There is no change to the interaction model where right-click opens the experience in full screen and double-clicking launches the Bing landing page.” When in full-screen mode, users will encounter two animated hotspots designed to facilitate discovery, revealing additional information upon hover. A click on a hotspot will close the full-screen view and redirect users to the Bing landing page.

Furthermore, Microsoft has assured users that these hotspots will provide supplementary information without the need to navigate to Bing, enhancing the overall user experience.

Windows 11 Mouse Settings

Alongside the revamped Spotlight UX, Build 22635.4145 also introduces an updated Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Mouse section. This update includes options to disable enhanced mouse pointer precision and a toggle for adjusting mouse scrolling direction. Previously accessible only through the Control Panel, these features are now conveniently located within the Settings menu, streamlining user access and enhancing customization options.

Why is Windows Spotlight not working?

Windows Spotlight might not work due to several reasons including network issues, problems with the Windows update, or corrupted system files. Additionally, incorrect configuration settings or issues with the Windows Spotlight service might be causing the problem. Running the Windows Update Troubleshooter, checking your network connection, and ensuring your Windows is up to date can often resolve the issue.

Why is Windows Spotlight not changing?

If Windows Spotlight is not changing the background image, it could be due to cached data that needs to be refreshed, server-side issues, or network connectivity problems. Additionally, it might be caused by misconfigured settings or corrupted files related to Windows Spotlight. Resetting Windows Spotlight settings, clearing the cache, and ensuring a stable network connection can often fix the problem.
