Xbox Live Outage Sparks User Frustration
The Xbox Live network, a popular multiplayer gaming and digital media platform operated by Microsoft, experienced a significant outage on Tuesday. Thousands of users reported difficulties accessing the service, leading to frustration among the gaming community.
Reports of issues with Xbox Live began to surge around 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, with over 23,000 outage reports logged on monitoring site Downdetector by 2:25 p.m. The majority of users reported problems logging in, with some encountering error messages indicating that the service was undergoing maintenance. In addition to Xbox Live, other Microsoft services such as Minecraft and the Microsoft Store also faced a high volume of user error reports during the outage.
The official Xbox Support account acknowledged the problem at 2:55 p.m. ET, stating that they were aware of users being disconnected from Xbox Live and that they were investigating the issue. The Xbox status page confirmed a major outage of the "Account & profile" service, affecting users' ability to sign in to their profiles and access various features like games, apps, and social activities.
Microsoft requires users to have an Xbox Live account to play games online and access content on Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and mobile apps. The outage prompted frustrated users to take to social media to express their concerns and seek answers from Xbox Support.
- One user tweeted, "@XboxSupport what’s happening? Can’t log in. Can’t watch YT, can’t play games… whatsup xbox /microsoft 😭??"
- Another user expressed frustration, saying, "@XboxSupport any reason why this is happening? It’s been 20 minutes and I still can’t log in. I logged in fine this morning. Also I can’t register the outage on the Microsoft website 🤬."
- A third user shared a screenshot of an error message, asking, "@XboxSupport is there a problem with Xbox live right now? I’ve reset my XSX a couple times and I keep getting this error."
