A new PC mod for Persona 4 Golden has been released by Gamebanana user BrawlerAce, allowing players to experience the original PS2 graphics of the game. Currently 40% complete, the mod focuses on restoring the visuals of the game’s dungeons in order to bring back the nostalgic look of the original Persona 4.
Restoring Nostalgia
Persona 4 Golden, being more accessible on all platforms compared to the original PS2 version, has made it easier for players to enjoy the enhanced version of the game. The mod specifically targets the dungeons and fields in the TV World, as well as normal and boss battles, with plans to eventually cover the entire game.
However, BrawlerAce noted that areas exclusive to Persona 4 Golden, such as Shichiri Beach and Okina City, pose a challenge due to the lack of reference from the original game. Despite this, efforts are being made to adapt these areas as closely as possible to the original’s aesthetic.
A Journey Through Time
Persona 4 was originally released in 2008 for the PS2, with the enhanced Golden version launching in 2012 for the PS Vita. Golden was later ported to PC in 2020 and to PS4, Switch, and Xbox One in 2023. GameSpot’s review of Persona 4 Golden praised the game, stating, “A wealth of new content and gameplay additions make a modern role-playing classic better than ever in Persona 4 Golden.”
For fans who cherish the original look and feel of Persona 4, this mod offers a unique opportunity to revisit their favorite game with a fresh yet familiar perspective. As BrawlerAce continues to work on this ambitious project, players can look forward to a more comprehensive restoration of the beloved classic's visuals.
