Squid Game: Unleashed Hits Beta Test in India
Squid Game: Unleashed, the multiplayer game based on the hit Netflix drama series, has reportedly hit beta in India. That’s at least according to what recent social media activity and a quick dig from our editors have found. This would be the first time the game has been publicly available since it’s been revealed.
Created by filmmaker Hwang-Don Hyuk, Squid Game, which revolves around a secret underground tournament where regular people play deadly versions of children’s playground games for a massive cash prize, was one of Netflix’s biggest hits in recent memory. So it’s no surprise they’re bringing a game version of the series to their own service.
The announcement trailer, which you can view below, seems to show a very Fall Guys-like mixture of obstacle course gameplay and other well-known moments from the series, such as the Red Light, Green Light game. It’s a pretty major gamble for Netflix, especially since the visibility of their games service has been pretty low.
There are certainly going to be some comments from a few corners about the irony of turning a pretty dystopian series into a video game, I’d reckon. And truth be told I’m sure somebody could really dig into the commodification or gamification or what-have-you, but for the moment I think most of us are watching closely to see whether or not this will be the game that really puts Netflix’s interactive catalogue on the map.
