Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a highly anticipated sequel a decade in the making, is set to continue the narrative threads left unresolved at the conclusion of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Developer BioWare has recently shared encouraging news for gamers who have yet to upgrade their systems since the original game’s release in November 2014. The minimum PC requirements for the upcoming role-playing game indicate that players can expect a smooth experience even on older hardware.

System Requirements and Performance

To the delight of many, The Veilguard will operate efficiently on graphics cards such as the NVIDIA GTX 970 or the AMD R9 290X, both of which are now a decade old. These specifications suggest that players with aging systems will not face significant barriers when diving into this new installment. Additionally, the game will support traditional HDDs, accommodating those who have not yet transitioned to faster storage solutions.

For gamers with more robust setups, The Veilguard offers a range of recommended specifications, including the NVIDIA RTX 2070 or its AMD counterpart, the Radeon RX 5700XT, both of which are six years old. However, regardless of the graphics card, players will need 16 GB of RAM, which is double the requirement of Inquisition.

This accessibility marks a refreshing departure from the trend of new AAA titles demanding cutting-edge hardware while still struggling with stability issues. Notably, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, another title from EA, faced significant challenges upon its release on PC, leading to ongoing patching efforts more than a year later. By focusing on graphics cards that are ten to six years old, BioWare aims to sidestep the controversies that have affected other popular games at launch, such as The Last Of Us: Part 1 and Dragon’s Dogma.

Importantly, the modest system requirements do not compromise visual quality. Early footage of The Veilguard showcases impressive graphics, suggesting that the game’s aesthetic appeal stems from strong art direction, a distinctive color palette, and consistent performance rather than merely relying on hyper-realistic fidelity. Furthermore, BioWare has confirmed that The Veilguard will be SteamDeck verified at launch, further enhancing its versatility across various platforms.

Given the game’s adaptability, it raises the question of whether EA will consider porting The Veilguard to last-generation consoles. Recently, the publisher announced plans to release Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on Xbox One and PS4, aiming to reach the millions of players who have yet to upgrade to current-generation systems. There is certainly a substantial audience eager to experience BioWare’s latest offering if it becomes available on their preferred platforms.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch on October 31 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
