Kodansha has embarked on an exciting new venture with the launch of the Fairy Tail Indie Game Guild project, aimed at empowering independent game developers to create titles inspired by Hiro Mashima’s beloved manga series. This initiative promises to enrich the gaming landscape with fresh interpretations of the Fairy Tail universe.
Upcoming Game Releases
As part of this initiative, Kodansha has unveiled the first two games that will grace the project. Both titles are set to make their debut on PC via Steam, catering to a global audience with support for seven languages: Japanese, English, French, Korean, Thai, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
The first title, Fairy Tail: Dungeons, is scheduled for release on August 27, 2024, in Japan, South Korea, Eastern Australia, and New Zealand, while the rest of the world can access it a day earlier on August 26, 2024. This game introduces a rogue-lite gameplay mechanic, allowing players to collect magic cards inspired by the series’ characters. Players will craft their own decks to engage in battles against monsters lurking within the dungeons.
Following closely is Fairy Tail: Beach Volleyball Havoc, which promises to deliver a lighthearted experience featuring beach volleyball matches among Fairy Tail characters, enhanced with whimsical magic effects. This title is set for a simultaneous worldwide release on September 16 or 17, 2024, depending on the player’s time zone.
The Fairy Tail franchise is no stranger to the gaming world, already boasting an official RPG developed by Koei Tecmo’s Gust, with a sequel slated for Winter 2024. The introduction of these indie titles adds a new dimension to the franchise, offering fans diverse gameplay experiences.
In addition to the two announced titles, Kadokawa has revealed plans for a third indie game, Fairy Tail: Birth of Magic, which will feature an original magic creation system, further expanding the creative possibilities within the Fairy Tail universe.
