STEAM players on PC can’t complain about a lack of games to play, but one of the bigger titles of this year has been missing from Valve’s storefront. This is about to change as 2024’s self-styled ‘quadruple-A game’ is coming to the platform very soon.
Skull and Bones Sails onto Steam
Skull and Bones is launching on Steam on August 22, 2024, and players can already wishlist the game. Pre-orders are not open yet, so we don’t know at what price point the game will release on Valve’s storefront, but Steam players will likely get a launch discount.
Skull and Bones experienced turbulent times both during its decade-long development and its initial launch in February this year. So, it’s only natural that Ubisoft would want to give gamers more ways to play by making the game available on the most popular PC platform.
With a score of 59/100 on review aggregator Metacritic, Skull and Bones garnered mixed reactions from critics, and its 3.4 out of 5 user score is unflattering. You can check out how we felt about the game at launch in our Skull and Bones review.
Until now, the game has been released on PC only via Ubisoft’s own online shop and the Epic Games Store, so adding it to Steam is the right move to boost its player base. Just like all recent Ubisoft games, Skull and Bones will have cross-play and cross-save support across all platforms via Ubisoft Connect.
This means that if you’ve already played the game on another platform, you can easily continue your pirate adventure on PC via Steam when the game launches there. Skull and Bones disembarking on Steam also means that it will become easier to download and play the game on the Steam Deck. The game is yet to receive its official ‘Steam Deck Verified’ badge, but there is no reason to expect that Valve’s handheld will have any issues running it. Adding the pirate fantasy game to PC's biggest storefront should boost its potential player base.
Skull and Bones is finally coming to Steam in August, after six months as Epic Game Store / Ubisoft Connect exclusive on PC.
