Information Technology Services at WVU will be rolling out the Windows 11 update to all managed Windows computers starting July 9. This update will be available for all campuses, including Health Sciences Center locations.

Smooth Transition with Minimal Disruption

The update will be downloaded in the background, ensuring that your work is not disrupted. You will have a three-day window to restart your computer and complete the update after receiving a pop-up notification indicating the availability of updates. If you do not manually restart within this timeframe, the update will be completed overnight.

Importance of Updating

Microsoft will cease support for Windows 10 after October 2025, making it crucial for devices to transition to Windows 11 to receive critical security updates. Rest assured, major WVU systems and services have been tested with Windows 11 to prevent any disruptions.

Compatibility and Support

If you do not see the update pop-up after July 9, it may indicate that your device is not compatible with the upgrade. In such cases, reach out to your college or department IT support team for assistance. Remember to log in with your primary WVU email account to access this information.

For those at HSC who do not receive the pop-up notification, inform your departmental Computer Support Contact about the inability to upgrade to Windows 11. If you are unsure of who to contact, log in with your WVU email address for further instructions. In case of login issues, contact 304-293-4444 for assistance.
