Steam has recently achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 38 million concurrent users on its platform, marking a new high in its history. This achievement comes just a month after the platform set a previous record of 37.2 million concurrent players, showcasing a rapid growth trajectory that has captivated the gaming community.
PC Games Are Increasing Day by Day
The upward trend in Steam’s user engagement is evident as the platform continues to attract a growing number of players. While the average concurrent player count typically hovers several million below the peak, the overall increase is unmistakable. Notably, this is the first time that the average concurrent players on Steam have remained consistently above 30 million.
The launch of Black Myth: Wukong has significantly contributed to this surge in player numbers. The game debuted with an impressive 2.3 million concurrent players, and although it has since settled to around half a million during peak times, it maintains an average of over 100,000 concurrent players. This performance secures its place among the top 10 most played games on Steam globally.
Leading the pack is Counter-Strike 2, which boasts peak concurrent players of approximately 1.45 million and averages over 900,000 players. Following closely is Dota 2, with peak concurrent players exceeding 700,000 and a steady average of more than 600,000. The majority of the top 10 games are free-to-play multiplayer titles, each attracting hundreds of thousands of concurrent players both at peak and on average.
PC Hardware Market Reflects Growth
The evidence of a burgeoning PC gaming community is not limited to Steam’s statistics. The PC hardware market reflects this growth, with hardware shipments increasing each quarter. AI PCs are particularly gaining traction, projected to account for up to 60% of all PC shipments by 2027.
Steam’s user-friendly platform, combined with its extensive library of over 100,000 games as of June 2024, continues to draw gamers from around the world. The platform’s intuitive interface and accessibility play a significant role in its popularity, ensuring that it remains a favored destination for PC gamers seeking diverse gaming experiences.
