I had the opportunity to delve into the world of Age of Empires Mobile at Gamescom, where I got a firsthand look at the game’s latest build set to launch later this year. TiMi Studio’s adaptation of the classic strategy game franchise for iOS and Android is already showing great promise, but it was the innovative extraction mode that truly caught my attention.
Innovative Extraction Mode
Bringing a game as grand as Age of Empires to mobile devices is no small task. While there is no shortage of strategy games available on mobile platforms, the Age of Empires series has always had a certain charm. During my exclusive preview at Gamescom, I was introduced to Age of Empires Mobile’s unique take on the extraction genre, a feature that seemed unlikely but was executed brilliantly by TiMi Studio.
Players will have the opportunity to lead their armies into battle, conquer foes, gather valuable items, and choose to extract at any point. This mode, inspired by popular FPS game Escape from Tarkov, is designed to be accessible and engaging for both iOS and Android players, catering to quick gaming sessions on-the-go or at home.
While I didn’t get a chance to experience the extraction mode firsthand during my preview, I did immerse myself in the core Age of Empires gameplay, building civilizations, exploring skill trees, and encountering historical and mythical figures. The game’s seamless integration of historical accuracy and legendary tales, such as the inclusion of King Arthur, adds a unique flavor to the experience.
According to TiMi Studios, Age of Empires Mobile promises a fresh and exciting experience for both newcomers and seasoned AoE players. My time with the game certainly reinforced this notion, showcasing the familiar grandeur of the Age of Empires franchise in a new handheld format.
Mark your calendars for October 17, 2024, when Age of Empires Mobile is set to be released. In the meantime, eager players can pre-register to join the adventure on their iPhone or Android devices.
