Google is currently exploring enhancements for its app, particularly focusing on the in-app browser experience. Among the latest developments, beta testers have begun to see vibrant new icon shortcuts, signaling a fresh design approach. However, the most intriguing change lies deeper within the app’s browser functionality.

New Bottom Bar Features

An APK teardown has revealed potential features that may soon grace the Google app, although it’s important to note that not all predicted features make it to public release. The latest version, v15.34.32.28, showcases three variations of a new bottom bar for the in-app browser, which utilizes Chrome Custom Tabs to present external content. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort with the Chrome team.

Currently, the Chrome Custom Tabs implementation within the Google app lacks a bottom bar. The first of the new designs introduces two icons: one for adding a website to favorites (organized in collections rather than bookmarks) and another for sharing content. The second design incorporates a third icon in the center, dedicated to insights, while the third design offers a rearranged layout of these three icons.

As users experiment with these features, the second design appears to activate by default, while the others require additional adjustments. This development aligns with Google’s ongoing efforts to refine the search button within the app’s bottom bar, aiming to create a more cohesive user interface across different functionalities.

At this stage, these changes are not yet available to the general user base. Updates will be provided as Google rolls out these features to end users.
