Transition to Lidl Plus
The supermarket has officially retired its original customer app, which had served as a platform for showcasing weekly offers and providing a digital version of its in-store leaflet. In its place, Lidl is encouraging shoppers to transition to its rewards app, Lidl Plus, which was first introduced four years ago, as reported by The Grocer.
As of last month, users attempting to access the original app are greeted with a message stating: “The Lidl app is no longer supported. Please switch to the Lidl Plus app for greater savings and super perks.” This change marks a significant shift for Lidl, which saw its original app downloaded over 50 million times from the Google Play Store since its launch in 2013.
So, what advantages does the Lidl Plus app offer? According to The Grocer, it provides personalized discounts with each shopping trip, along with occasional freebies and other enticing prizes. Additionally, Lidl has been integrating its loyalty app with its bakery offerings, regularly distributing free sweet and savory treats to its members.
Lidl explained to The Grocer that while the older app provided information on offers, products, and store details, all of this data is now accessible through the Lidl Plus app. The decision to retire the original app was made to simplify and streamline the shopping experience for customers.
On its website, Lidl emphasizes that the Plus app delivers “the same great savings without the faff.” The convenience is further enhanced by the app's functionality: “There’s no need to activate each offer, simply scan your app at the till and save – easy-peasy.”
