Kyle Pfeiffer recently shared insights into his creative journey, revealing the intricate connections between his music and his personal experiences, particularly in the realms of Minecraft and rock music. In an engaging conversation with Dom Smith from Soundsphere, Pfeiffer, the mind behind Blacklite District, opened up about his life and artistry.

Who is Blacklite District?

Originating from suburban Chicago and later establishing himself in Spearfish, South Dakota, Kyle’s musical journey began at an impressively young age. “I got my first drum set when I was seven,” he recalls, inspired by a Fleetwood Mac VHS tape gifted by his grandmother. During his formative years, Ozzy Osbourne’s ‘No More Tears’ served as a refuge amidst the grief of losing his mother to addiction when he was just nine. “That song became my solace,” he reflects, marking the beginning of his lifelong passion for music.

As he transitioned into his teenage years, Kyle immersed himself in both the art and business of music, diligently studying its nuances while navigating the ever-evolving industry landscape. His sound began to take shape as he blended rock with elements of rap and EDM, allowing him to experiment and refine his craft.

The ascent of Blacklite District has been nothing short of remarkable, highlighted by chart-topping hits such as “With Me Now” in 2014 and “Cold As Ice” in 2018. Tracks like “Falling” and “Wishing Dead” further demonstrated Kyle’s artistic evolution and ability to resonate with audiences.

A passionate collector of Pokémon memorabilia and a dedicated Minecraft enthusiast, Kyle discovered a unique avenue to connect with his fans through gaming. By collaborating with Minecraft content creators, he produced innovative music videos that propelled his popularity, particularly with the 2018 hit “Cold As Ice,” which garnered over 100 million streams and peaked at number 35 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart. This fusion of gaming culture and music transformed his live performances into vibrant festivals, where gaming, meet-and-greets, and music coalesced into a singular experience.

In 2021, Kyle took a more introspective approach with autobiographical tracks like “Live Another Day” and “To Live Is To Suffer,” exploring his personal struggles and triumphs. His 2022 release, 1990, marked a return to his rock roots, and by the end of that year, he expanded this project with 1990 XL. The additional tracks, including “Worldwide Controversy” and “I Gambled and I Won,” reflect themes of trauma and triumph, showcasing Blacklite District’s evolving sound while providing a cohesive listening experience for both new and long-time fans. “I’d like to do this with all of my previous projects,” he notes, expressing his desire to add more songs as an XL edition, illustrating his artistic growth.

As 2024 unfolds, Kyle is poised to return with renewed energy, committed to delivering an authentic experience for both new and returning listeners. Guided by his music, he embarks on this new chapter, remaining true to his foundational belief: to create genuine and compelling music for all who choose to listen.
