Samsung and Tesla Expand UK Partnership to Enhance Energy Management

26 Sep 2024

Enhancing Energy Efficiency Through Smart Technology

In a significant advancement for energy management, users of the SmartThings app can now remotely control their thermostats while also automating connected appliances to optimize electricity usage during peak hours. This innovative feature is part of British Gas’ PeakSave scheme, which incentivizes customers to reduce energy consumption during high-demand periods by offering discounts on their bills.

The automation capabilities will intelligently adjust the operating modes of appliances linked to the SmartThings app, allowing users to capitalize on times when electricity is more affordable due to increased availability of renewable energy sources.

In addition to these energy-saving measures, Samsung has announced an expansion of its collaboration with Tesla into the UK market. This partnership enables Tesla electric vehicle owners, as well as those with Powerwall home batteries, Solar Inverters, or Wall Connectors, to manage their devices seamlessly through the SmartThings app.

Deborah Honig, the chief customer officer at Samsung UK and Ireland, emphasized the importance of providing customers with enhanced energy consumption controls, particularly as winter approaches and utility bills are expected to rise. She stated, “We know that controlling energy consumption is a top priority for our customers, and as we head into winter this becomes an even bigger priority.”

Honig further noted, “We are continually evolving our SmartThings energy management features and extending our partnerships with British Gas and Tesla, to make it even easier and more intuitive for customers to manage their home energy usage.” She highlighted the company’s commitment to developing automated technology solutions that not only save time and money but also contribute to environmental sustainability.

Dan Rosenfield, managing director of Hive, expressed enthusiasm about the extended partnership with Samsung, stating, “We are delighted to be extending our partnership with Samsung to energise a greener, fairer future for our customers.” He added that as winter approaches, the integration of their market-leading propositions into the SmartThings app will simplify the process for customers looking to reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint.
