Stockholm-based developer Paper Play Games has announced the release of their latest project, The Legend of Pippi Longstocking. This game is the first in ten years to translate the original author’s work into a mobile game, and is available right now on iOS and Android!
For those of you not familiar, Pippi Longstocking is one of those famous cultural exports aimed at children. Much like Anne of Green Gables, the Moomins or Harry Potter, the superhumanly strong, tomboyish Pippi has had her stories (originally written by author Astrid Lindgren) translated into dozens of languages the world over. Surprising then that she shows up so infrequently in the often kid-focused world of mobile gaming.
The World of Pippi Longstocking
The World of Pippi Longstocking looks to be a relatively simple puzzle game mixed with a digital toybox, where you’ll be able to navigate a variety of locations from the books, act out certain moments and otherwise discover new and interesting things. Think a mix of point-and-click adventure game, and something like Scribblenauts, which makes it ideal for young players.
Funnily enough, I found out while researching this that Pippi Longstocking’s fictional father, a sea captain who ends up shipwrecked and becomes king of a tropical island, is actually based on a real person. Real life can be stranger than fiction huh?
The World of Pippi Longstocking is out now on iOS and Android!
