The highly anticipated Epic Games Store is finally launching on mobile devices today. The store will be available on iOS in the EU, and worldwide on Android.
Exciting Game Lineup
The launch will feature three exciting games – Fortnite, Fall Guys Mobile, and Rocket League Sideswipe. Fall Guys will even offer cross-platform play and progression with the PC and console versions of the game.
In an interview with Game File, Epic boss Tim Sweeney expressed his commitment to the project, stating: “If we spent a billion dollars so far, that’s a small price to pay for the future freedom of our company and of all the others who want to participate in the market.”
Alternative Access
All three games launching on the Epic Games Store today will also be available on AltStore, an independent mobile store accessible on iOS.
Challenges and Optimism
During a media briefing, Sweeney emphasized the challenges faced by Apple and Google, stating: “[Apple and Google] are going to great efforts to slow us down and tried to stop us several times, and the EC always stepped up and ensured that competitors were able to enter the market, which we’re now doing.”
Although the store is not yet available on iOS in the UK, Steve Allison, general manager of the Epic Games Store, expressed optimism about expanding to all regions in the near future.
“Over the next couple of years, hopefully we’ll be available worldwide on iOS,” he said. “And we’re continue to work with alternative stores worldwide that offer developers great terms.”
