Consumer Alert on Subscription Scams

Consumer advocacy group Which? has raised concerns regarding a deceptive website known as Alltainment, which employs misleading advertisements to lure individuals into signing up for unrelated subscription services. This alarming trend has been particularly noted for its use of QR codes, which redirect unsuspecting users to subscription packages without their informed consent.

One affected individual recounted their experience to Which?, stating, “I attempted to register for a parking app and was unexpectedly directed to a site that captured my card information, enrolling me in a £39.99 monthly subscription for what was described as an entertainment package.”

This situation appears to have ensnared numerous victims, as indicated by reviews on Trustpilot. A user noted, “It seems they are exploiting the name of a defunct company.” The reviews reveal a troubling pattern: many individuals attempting to download legitimate parking applications, such as JustPark, found themselves inadvertently redirected to Alltainment.

Which? has issued a warning regarding the Alltainment website, which was launched less than a year ago, in November 2022. The reviews on Trustpilot began appearing from June 30, 2023, suggesting that the site has only recently begun its operations in the UK.

Tactics Employed by Alltainment

Analysis of the Trustpilot feedback indicates that nearly all reviews for Alltainment are rated one star. While some users expressed confusion over how they ended up subscribing, a deeper examination of the complaints reveals two primary tactics employed by this dubious firm:

  • Parking Apps: The majority of reviewers reported attempts to download parking applications, only to be redirected to Alltainment.
  • QR Codes: Others mentioned scanning QR codes found in restaurants or online, which inadvertently led them to Alltainment.

JustPark has reiterated that it has no connection to Alltainment and has urged customers to report any fraudulent activities. A spokesperson emphasized, “We value and prioritize protecting our customers’ safety and only operate through official channels to ensure a secure experience for all users.”

For those seeking access to the official JustPark app and website, customers in the UK are advised to visit the Apple App Store, the Android Play Store, or the official website at www.justpark.com. Any promotional materials or digital advertisements masquerading as JustPark or its vendors are considered fraudulent and should be reported to the appropriate advertising platforms.
