Code Vein 2 Features Familiar Soulslike Refinements

06 Jan 2026

Code Vein 2 continues its soulslike tradition with a mix of familiarity and fresh elements, launching on 2026-01-29. While the game introduces a story reset, it retains core mechanics from its predecessor. The sequel keeps the soulslike fundamentals, including checkpoints known as Mistles, currency retrieval upon death, and combat dynamics driven by Blood Codes and Formae skills.

Customizable Combat and Weaponry

The game introduces deeper customization options. Players can extensively modify their character's appearance and swap Blood Codes at will to alter gameplay styles. Additionally, up to four boosters can tweak builds. Weapon choice has expanded beyond the initial game's arsenal, now including twin blades and rune blades, with over 200 Formae available.

Combat remains intuitive but slightly faster-paced, featuring Jails like the scythe and bat swarm. Defensive mechanics now include parry-capable bracers and a quickstep feature, echoing Bloodborne's mobility.

Narrative and Exploration Enhancements

The story introduces players to a post-Resurgence world, where players must counter the identity-eroding Lunar Rapacis. Players are revived by the Revenant Lou, whose half-heart fusion offers time travel abilities to tackle the Resurgence's early days. Companions provide new Blood Codes and support in battle.

Exploration has improved with the Sunken Pylon area showcasing complex navigation. To aid players, highlighted footsteps trace paths, reducing confusion.

Overall, Code Vein 2 emerges as a mechanically sophisticated sequel, aiming to satisfy fans and newcomers with its well-polished familiar designs.
