Developers at Mindseye Studio have written an open letter calling for changes in management following layoffs. The employees, both current and former, are demanding improved working conditions and fair treatment.
Employees Demand Action
The letter, penned by 93 developers, cites issues with management at Build A Rocket Boy. It points to mishandled layoffs and excessive overtime, pressing Leslie Benzies and Mark Gerhard for reflection on their management style. The developers, represented by the IWGB Game Workers Union, are pursuing legal action against the studio.
Allegations of Mismanagement
Mindseye is accused of significant mismanagement, especially during the redundancy process. The letter details confusion and distress caused by misinformation, incorrect dismissal notices, and inappropriate team placements, leading to wrongful dismissals. Approximately 250 to 300 developers were affected.
Calls for Fair Treatment
The developers demand a public apology, proper compensation, and options for redundancy notice handling. They ask Mindseye to improve internal processes and acknowledge the IWGB as a trade union. Commitment to fair treatment, through external partners in future layoffs, is also a demand.
