Bloodlines 2 Refunds Announced Due to DLC Pricing Issues

07 Sep 2025

Paradox Interactive has initiated refunds for the PlayStation Store preorders of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Premium Edition, responding to customer concerns over its downloadable content (DLC) pricing strategy. Affected users will be refunded starting Monday, September 8, with the opportunity to place new preorders following the announcement of revised pricing on September 17.

Pricing Controversy

The controversy arose from the decision to place two of the game's six playable clans behind a $30 DLC paywall. Many users voiced frustration, arguing this significantly increased the game's effective price for those wanting full access to its core features. Paradox's decision to cancel existing preorders appears to be an intentional first step towards providing a smoother launch experience. This proactive move acknowledges the feedback from its community, who have been eagerly following the title's development.

Paradox's choice to focus on the PlayStation platform reflects specific limitations of the PlayStation Store, which currently lacks functionality for partial refunds or price adjustments. In contrast, platforms like Steam might be more flexible in this regard, offering possibilities to refund price differences directly.

Turbulent Development Journey

Bloodlines 2 has experienced a tumultuous development path. Initially in development with Hardsuit Labs and slated for a 2020 release, the project faced numerous delays. Eventually, Paradox transitioned development responsibilities to The Chinese Room, further extending its production timeline.

The community's reaction has been mixed, with some players expressing skepticism about the changes, while others remain hopeful Paradox will incorporate the clans into the base game priced at $60. This decision could potentially address criticisms and restore goodwill among fans who have been waiting over three years for the game's launch.

Paradox's upcoming statement on September 17 is anticipated to provide a detailed breakdown of the new pricing structure and elaborate on how they plan to placate their concerned player base. As the release date approaches, stakeholders in the gaming community are keenly watching for these adjustments, which could influence overall reception upon the game's launch on October 21.
