GOG Preservation Program Reaches 331 Games in 2026

In a significant milestone for digital gaming, GOG's Preservation Program has expanded its catalog to include 331 titles as of October 15, 2026. This initiative aims to ensure that classic games remain accessible and playable for future generations, emphasizing a commitment to digital ownership and preservation.

What is the GOG Preservation Program?

Launched on November 13, 2024, the GOG Preservation Program was established to maintain compatibility and accessibility for older games in an ever-evolving digital landscape. The program started with 100 titles and has seen steady growth, reflecting GOG's dedication to preserving gaming history. Each game included in the program is DRM-free, allowing players to download and keep a copy without the need for an internet connection or a specific launcher.

Recent Additions and Noteworthy Titles

The latest additions to the program include the renowned The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Game of the Year Edition Deluxe and Ghostwire: Tokyo. Oblivion, originally released in 2006, underwent extensive technical work to ensure it runs smoothly on modern systems. This process exemplifies the meticulous effort GOG invests in ensuring legacy titles remain functional and enjoyable.

Growth and Technical Improvements

Since its inception, the Preservation Program has documented improvements for each title, enhancing their compatibility and user experience. The program's growth reflects not only the addition of new games but also improvements in technical aspects such as updated installers and localization efforts. The average user rating across the collection stands at 4.2 out of 5, indicating overall positive reception among players.

Strategic Shift Under New Ownership

GOG's renewed focus on the Preservation Program coincides with a change in ownership. In December 2025, Michał Kiciński, a co-founder of CD Projekt, acquired GOG. This shift has led to a stronger emphasis on preservation as a core aspect of GOG's identity, distinguishing it from competitors like Steam and the Epic Games Store, which primarily focus on catalog size and new releases.

Significance of DRM-Free Gaming

One of the key advantages of the GOG Preservation Program is its commitment to DRM-free gaming. Unlike other platforms where games may require constant online verification, GOG allows players to own their games outright, which aligns with the increasing demand for digital ownership rights. This philosophy is particularly appealing to gamers who are concerned about the longevity and accessibility of their digital libraries.

Recognition and Future Outlook

The GOG Preservation Program has garnered recognition from external organizations, being named a finalist for an industry award by the Digital Preservation Coalition in 2026. This acknowledgment highlights the program's methodological seriousness and its commitment to preserving gaming history.

Looking ahead, it is expected that the growth of the Preservation Program will continue, albeit at a slower pace as GOG shifts its focus to more technically demanding titles. The preservation of digital games remains a crucial conversation in the gaming industry, and GOG is positioning itself as a leader in this important aspect of gaming culture.

This initiative not only serves to preserve iconic experiences but also emphasizes the importance of digital ownership in a rapidly changing industry. На 19 октября 2026 года в программе сохранения GOG числится 331 игра и 1,702 задокументированных улучшения.
