PC emulation on Android devices is gaining traction, particularly on high-end hardware powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Recent demonstrations by YouTuber ETA Prime showcased several PC games running efficiently on these devices using emulation tools like GameHub and Game Native.
Performance on Snapdragon 8 Elite
The AYN Odin 3, equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite and 16 GB of RAM, successfully ran 'Left 4 Dead 2' and 'Marvel Cosmic Invasion' at a smooth 60 FPS. Meanwhile, the Lenovo Y700 Gen 4, featuring a Snapdragon 8 Elite and 12 GB of RAM, managed to run 'GTA V' at 720p on normal settings, achieving just over 40 FPS.
Advanced Gaming Capabilities
The Red Magic 11 Pro, with its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 16 GB of RAM, demonstrated even more impressive results. 'Spider-Man: Miles Morales' maintained a near-steady 30 FPS at 720p with FSR 3 upscaling set to Balanced. 'The Witcher 3' (DX9) ran at a capped 60 FPS at 720p on low settings, and 'Cyberpunk 2077' exceeded 60 FPS with frame generation enabled, a significant improvement from the previous 45–50 FPS.
Emulation Tools and Technologies
These advancements are largely due to translation technologies such as Valve's Proton and FEX, which GameHub utilizes to convert x86/Windows code for ARM-based Android devices. GameHub is accessible via the Google Play Store, while Game Native is available as open-source software through its website or GitHub. Despite these improvements, emulation on Android remains imperfect and is generally restricted to powerful flagship devices.
