Sony Halts Major PS5 Game Releases on PC

22 Jun 2026

Sony has decided to cease releasing its major PlayStation 5 games on PC, according to sources familiar with the company's strategy who spoke with Bloomberg. This marks a shift from the past six years, during which Sony released several first-party PlayStation exclusives on PC following their console debuts.

Exclusivity Strategy

While online multiplayer titles such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will continue to be available on multiple platforms, single-player games like Ghost of Yotei and the upcoming Saros will remain exclusive to the PlayStation 5. This decision underscores Sony's commitment to maintaining exclusivity for its flagship console.

Market Considerations

According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, one reason for this strategic shift is the underperformance of recent PlayStation games on PC. Additionally, Sony is concerned that releasing games on PC could negatively impact PlayStation 5 sales and the sales of future consoles. Despite this change, two games developed by third-party studios—Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora—are still slated for PC release later this year.

While these plans could evolve due to the dynamic nature of the video game industry, Sony's current strategy reflects a focus on bolstering its console market position.
