Upgrade and ESU Options

Users who meet specific hardware requirements can upgrade to Windows 11 at no cost. The necessary specifications include a 1 GHz or faster compatible 64-bit processor with two or more cores, 4 GB or more RAM, 64 GB or more storage, DirectX 12-capable graphics, TPM 2.0, UEFI firmware with Secure Boot, and a 720p or higher display.

For users whose PCs do not meet these requirements, unofficial upgrade methods are available, along with guides for purchasing new computers.

Microsoft offers an Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, providing critical security fixes until 2026-10-13. To enroll in ESU, users can navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Enroll now, typically involving a $30 fee. Additional options include syncing settings to OneDrive or redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points.

Enrollment Details and Regional Variances

European users can enroll in the ESU program without any fees, following a decision under the Digital Markets Act. To access the ESU enrollment wizard, users must be signed into a Microsoft account and have Windows 10 Version 22H2 with update KB5046613 (build 19045.5131 or later).
