Microsoft Ends Support for Windows 10 After 8 Years

Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 10, impacting security updates and technical support for users worldwide from 2023-10-10.

Support Changes and Timeline

Microsoft released Windows 10 in July 2015, offering a free upgrade to Windows 7 and 8 users in its first year. The system received continuous updates and became the predominant platform on PCs globally. However, as of today, regular security patches will cease for most users. Despite this, PCs will remain operational.

Extended Security Updates (ESU) are available for home users seeking another year of security patches. Businesses can opt for up to three years of ESUs by paying a subscription fee.

Upgrade Path to Windows 11

Microsoft encourages users to transition to Windows 11, released in October 2021. Windows 11 introduced a refreshed Start menu and centered taskbar elements. However, many older systems are incompatible with Windows 11, leading to continued reliance on Windows 10.

Windows 10 remains popular due to its extensive user base and the ESU program, ensuring its presence for years despite the formal end-of-support.
