Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix Launches on Modern Platforms in 2026

31 Oct 2025

Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix will debut on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2026. This marks the first time the game, originally developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment, will be available on contemporary platforms. Physical editions will also be released for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Game Background and Setting

Originally launched in 2001, Retro Helix serves as a prequel to the Fear Effect series. Set in 2048, it features a dystopian world grappling with a deadly disease known as EINDS (Environmentally Induced Nucleotides Degeneration Syndrome), which has already claimed over a billion lives. The narrative unfolds in a crime-ridden landscape, where the manipulation of DNA poses further threats.

Character and Plot Details

The storyline focuses on four key characters in Hong Kong: Hana Tsu-Vachel, a former Triad member; Royce Glas, once a US commander; Jacob “Deke” Decourt, an Australian hitman; and Rain, a mysterious discovery by Hana. Together, they embark on a mission to find a cure, journeying through exotic locations and encountering intersections of Chinese folklore and reality.
