Silksong Launch Praised Despite Localization Issues

05 Sep 2025

The eagerly awaited release of Hollow Knight: Silksong has been met with widespread applause across the gaming community. While the game's detailed design and captivating gameplay have captured the hearts of many, some international players have voiced concerns over localization. Reports from players in China and France highlight specific translation issues that have somewhat dulled their gaming experience.

Localization Challenges

Players utilizing the Simplified Chinese language option on Steam have expressed dissatisfaction with the translation, which scored a mixed 51% in reviews. Many of these critiques point out the use of outdated and overly classical language that detracts from the game's lively modern feel. In contrast, English reviews for the game are overwhelmingly positive, praising its innovative mechanics and engaging narrative.

The French version of the game has also encountered some hurdles, with errors becoming evident despite overall positive reviews from French-speaking players. An experienced videogame translator highlighted these issues, suggesting that these might affect the immersion and understanding of the storyline for francophone players.

Team Cherry’s Response

In addressing these concerns, Matthew Griffin, the marketing and publishing manager for Team Cherry, issued an apology concerning the Simplified Chinese localization. Griffin reassured the community that the team is actively working to amend these translation woes, pledging improvements in the coming weeks. However, Team Cherry has yet to make a public statement regarding the French localization issues.

Despite these language challenges, players continue to immerse themselves in the adventures of Hornet, the game's protagonist. The engaging action sequences and richly developed world have ensured that Silksong maintains a strong foothold in the gaming community, even as some non-English speakers navigate through the teething problems of translation.

As Team Cherry advances toward fixing these areas of concern, the global gaming community remains hopeful for enhanced accessibility, ensuring every player can fully enjoy the enthralling journey that Silksong offers. The commitment from the developers to address these issues reflects a dedication to maintaining their reputation as creators of experiences that transcend linguistic boundaries.
