PC games giant Valve has recently unveiled a new feature on its popular platform, Steam. The company is rolling out Game Recording in beta, offering players the ability to capture and save gameplay footage with ease.
Innovative Recording Modes
One of the key features of this new functionality is the Background Recording mode, which allows gamers to save footage directly to their preferred storage option. Additionally, the manual On Demand Recording feature can be toggled on and off as needed.
Valve has also included a Replay mode, which enables players to review recent gameplay moments. Using
Enhanced Sharing and Clipping
Moreover, the Game Recording tool allows users to clip specific parts of footage for easy access. The Share option makes it simple to share recordings with friends and fellow gamers.
During recording, the Steam Timeline feature displays game events in real-time for enhanced gameplay tracking. This feature is currently available in beta for players to test out.
Developer-Friendly Integration
For developers, Valve has made integration seamless through an SDK and API that are readily accessible. The company emphasizes that the Game Recording feature has been optimized to minimize resource usage.
In a statement, Valve explained, “Steam Game Recording has been designed to have minimal impact on system resources, ensuring that gameplay performance remains unaffected. By leveraging Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, the feature significantly reduces the performance cost of creating video recordings.”
However, Valve notes that on systems without compatible graphics cards, the CPU will be utilized for video recording, potentially leading to a noticeable performance impact.
