Windows 11 24H2 Update Boosts Ryzen 7700X and 9700X Performance by 10-11%

29 Aug 2024

Windows 11 24H2 Update: A Boost for Ryzen Processors

The Windows 11 24H2 update has made its debut on the Release Preview Channel, and early reports from users indicate a notable enhancement in performance, particularly for those utilizing Zen 4 and Zen 5 Ryzen processors. According to the reviewer Hardware Unboxed, the update has yielded an average performance boost of approximately 10% for the 7700X and 11% for the 9700X at 1080p resolution when comparing it to the previous Windows 23H2 version. This trend of improvement was consistent across nearly all tested games.

Mixed Results Across Titles

Further testing conducted by Hardwareluxx revealed even more striking results, with performance enhancements reaching up to 23.5%, contingent on the specific game title. However, it is worth noting that not every game benefitted from the update; some titles exhibited no improvement, and a few even experienced a decline in performance. This variability suggests that while the update offers promising advancements, it is not universally effective.

AMD is collaborating with Microsoft to ensure that all users can access these performance enhancements in forthcoming Windows 11 updates. The current findings indicate that the 24H2 update is not limited to the Ryzen 9000 series; users with Ryzen 7000-series chips are also witnessing benefits. This broadens the scope of potential performance gains for AMD users as the latest Windows update prepares for its official rollout later this year.

However, it is prudent to temper expectations regarding uniform performance improvements. While Hardware Unboxed reported gains ranging from zero to 35%, depending on the game, Hardwareluxx's experience diverged slightly. Although most titles reviewed showed some level of enhancement, notable exceptions like F1 24 and Baldur’s Gate 3 recorded a decrease in frames per second (FPS).

Meanwhile, Tom’s Hardware is diligently working on its own benchmarking tests and anticipates sharing insights on the impact of the Windows 11 24H2 update on Ryzen 9000 chips in the near future. For now, the news of performance improvements serves as an encouraging development for AMD users, hinting at a more optimized gaming experience ahead.
