Google Revamps Voice Search in Android App with New UI

22 Sep 2025

Google is experimenting with a refreshed user interface for voice search within its Android app, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance user interaction and experience. This update is being tested in the beta version 16.36.40.sa.arm64 and showcases a new, vibrant design.

The redesign introduces pulsing animations reminiscent of animations seen in AI Mode, and crucially, it removes the list of recent searches from the voice search screen. This change aims to create a cleaner and more intuitive user experience. The microphone or home screen widget now opens up an animated prompt asking, "What's on your mind?" facilitating a more direct and immersive search experience.

Enhanced Song Recognition Feature

Alongside updates to voice search, Google has also revamped its song search feature to compete more robustly with services like Shazam. The song search page has a sleeker design highlighted by a prominent "Play Sing Hum" prompt, encouraging users to explore new songs by humming or singing snippets. This focus on song recognition shows Google's commitment to integrating more comprehensive search options for users keen on discovering or identifying music quickly.

The changes are currently being tested on a limited scale, managed server-side, which means that only a select group of users have access to the new interface for now. This approach allows Google to gather user feedback and make further refinements before a broader rollout.

Intriguingly, a similar redesigned voice search interface has been observed on the Google Play Store, suggesting a possible strategy by Google to create a unified search experience across its platform. Users who have experienced these updates have noted the visual alignment with Google's AI Mode, marking a step towards creating a cohesive visual identity for Google's AI-driven services.

While the beta test of this new voice search interface marks a significant step forward, Google's intentions for a broader implementation remain to be seen. However, these enhancements underscore an ongoing effort by the tech giant to innovate continually and improve its search functionalities through better design and integration.
